Hello BossSMP, this is Sky.

I am building a modern city in our server. It is called The City of Aurora. It will be the largest and most grand structure ever seen on Boss.

In this thread I will post new information about this project as well as pictures of our progress.

Here is the list of Builders:

Sky
Riccardo
Shiro
Leon
Peppermint
Oat
Zman
Maui
Haptic
Ecao
piggy
poey
Motor

And here is the List of Architects:

Sky
Riccardo
Shiro
Leon
Maui
Squrt

I will keep these lists up to date. Anyone wishing to help will be added to the list and eventually heavily rewarded and honored within our great city.
However, know that becoming an Architect of Aurora is a Huge commitment, as well as a huge honor. I will only select people who have prodigious designing skills. Their buildings will be the biggest in the city, and will make up our skyline.

I estimate that the city will take around 5 months to make, or more.

Be sure to check back in this thread soon for more details about the city, and post here if you have any questions or suggestions.

Below is a picture of the map of Aurora. It is a very large picture, sorry about that. I recommend that any builders download it and use it as a reference when laying out the city.

Thats the estimated building are for the city thus far. The only other way, if expansion is required, is to expand west into the forest, but there are many hills and mountains.

Ok ricc, here is the actual size estimate for Aurora, assuming each block is 100 squared.

AuroraSize.jpg

That is about 11 times larger than the entire spawn area. Its larger than the island it was intended to share with New Alexandria and your house. The VIP Gated District will be suspended far into the ocean. Hopefully we can have it moved before we can worry about building a massive chunk of land in the ocean.

The problem is that when I started clearing land the entire island was uninhabited. All these new structures have pushed Aurora into the ocean, it seems.

I'm here today with details about the city.

The plan is that it will be divided roughly into 4 main districts. They are:

Central Aurora, home to skyscrapers and is very clean and polished working. It will be the height or Auroran Culture. As an analogy it will be somewhat similar to downtown Seattle.

The Commercial District, which surrounds the Central District is composed of mainly shops, restaurants, bars, and other businesses. It has a large mall and the university.

The Residential Sprawl is the most massive district and has many different sub-zones such as The Ghetto, The Western Suburbs, and The Coastal Suburbs. It is dominated by houses with the occasional school or other public buildings. It is akin to a small town in design, except that it stretches on for many hundreds of blocks.

The Industrial District, which is in the far Northeastern Corner of the city, is the smallest, but still retains a distinct flavor from the rest of the city. It is filled with factories and is bordered by The Ghetto.

The Agricultural Outskirts lie beyond the Northwest edge of urban Aurora. It has many farms for food, reeds, and pumpkins as well as pastures for animals. The occasional house can be found and it has mostly dirt paths instead of roads.

City Details:

Aurora in its current design is 1000 blocks long and 600 blocks wide.

The main 19 roads will most likely be 11 blocks wide and lined with tracks for minecrarts.

Much of the city is inside a jungle, meaning ocelots will spawn inside it.

The VIP District will be a gated community within the Coastal Suburbs. It will be open only to Architects of the city. Builders will also have a special area to live in.

I'll gladly help Sky. Tell me a location, and what to bring, and I'll be buildin' in no time.

EDIT: Random thought, this somehow reminded me of the BFBC2 level Operation Aurora. Could you put a Scalar doomsday device in here too?
I've kinda left. Might be around some other time :/

Thank you ecao and everyone else who has volunteered their time to this project, both currently and in the future.

At the moment we need diggers. I am constructing the city systematically, and everything must be done in the correct order.

IF YOU WISH TO HELP:

Directions to the dig site are as follows:

1: go to spawn (type /spawn)

2: go into the nether portal in the portal room

3: leave the bedrock room in the nether.

4: go to the rail in front of you and hit the stone button on the cobblestone block. This will activate a minecart that will take you through the nether. You will lag a lot. just hang tight.

5: once you arrive at the other nether portal destroy your minecart

6: enter the nether portal

7: The dig site will be directly ahead of you, across a cobblestone bridge. Keep running forward until you reach a half destroyed mountain. This is where digging needs to be done.

We will eventually need massive quantities of:
redstone
stone
cobblestone
glowstone
redstone lamps
all kinds of wood
most kinds of wool

As a bit if a teaser here is a list of a few of the 19 major roads:
Fresh Prince Way
White Rabbit Avenue
Mescudi Street
Scranton Avenue

And a list of a small amount of the many, many building names I have written down:
Liberty Buiding (skyscraper)
Yogtower (skyscraper)
Mod Training Building
"Hooked on Doughnuts" Doughnut Emporium
Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory
Jaffa Cake Factory
Valve Headquarters
Sad Panda Chinese Resturant

and many hundreds more secrets to find in Aurora!

Stay tuned to this thread for more information on this ambitious project in the future.

I can help clear land, and I guess I can try my hand at building too! Not the best at it though XD

I would like to be considered to be a architect for the city. I think that it would bring me back into the server and give me something to do

Moar Updates!

Archlinder (massive kudos to that guy)moved the entire Aurora build site on Tuesday, May 22nd.
It is now much further from spawn. Certain size restraints forced me to do this. After this Shiro, Arch, and Alitode proceeded to build massive quantities of road, some of which actually extends beyond the south and east edges of the road plan itself.

Also I have finished drawing a District and Road Map for Aurora. It's a fairly large file. I recommend just downloading it so that the street names are easier to read.

Blue: Central District

Green: Commercial District

Orange: Residential District

Red: Industrial District

\
(Middle click the image to make it bigger)

Note: The street names are not set in stone, in fact is it most likely that they will in fact change eventually.

This is probably a little late, but could I be a builder? I'd love to help on this :D
It's totally fine if I can't, I understand that I am late, since I don't really check in the Help Wanted section of the forums >.<
