Remember the old days of Pangaea and Mondas? The server where everyone knew each other, the server where there were 15 or more players on at any given time, and cool players joining every day? Do you guys remember the amazing cities like Oceanside and Barossa, Loi's Nether town and Arcameon? And being able to build anything you want without having to worry about money or stupid griefers?

It has been 4-5 maps since then, with less people on each day and every day being pretty repetitive.

What if we could go back to the glory days of Pangaea and Mondas? The perfect balance of fun and action.

So today in chat, a bunch of players were talking about how we could play like we did back then. And so, we came to a preliminary recommendation on what we should do:
Basically the plan is this:

1) Turn PvP back on, BUT serial PvPers will be strictly controlled; jail time and then ban
2) Mods/ModJrs/Mentors can choose to become something like a Lawman like in Kobol to escort players out of Spawntown or other towns.
3) Micropolis(Spawn town) and Reses will be PvP off zones
4) Admins can start/sponsor towns. Many will not have time, so they can res out a place and have a player be a mayor or deputy mayor. That way, there will be people on to give out plots to new players.
Also, this will be a great opportunity to award older, more experienced players. While there may be not enough room for a promotion, having them run a town will be equally awesome.
A large town will help new players who don't know how to res, or are too lazy to res, to have a place to stay near other people before they go off in the world.
Having different players help run towns will showcase the creativeness of our player! Medieval designs, Nether themes, Sandstone oases, etc.!
Towns let players come together, get along with one another, and help each other, making our community that close-knit, friendly atmosphere again.
By appointing players to run admin-sponsored towns, admins can get a chance to play or do admin work without having to constantly help out with town stuff.
As towns gain more people, they can start serverwide events such as spleef tourneys or an Assassins tourney like in Kobol, which help towns be more cohesive.
5) Lots of advertising on MCForums, PlanetMC, Youtube personalities, etc.

Some of you may say: if we let PvP in the main world, people will leave.
First, remember that the entire Spawn town will be PvP off, and other reses can be PvP off as well
Second, Admin towns will be pretty massive, complete with farms, grinders, etc. that can be built by players living in them
Third, again, people like INeedANameToo will be strictly punished. If players find someone to be crazy with PvP, mods/admins will jail that player or admins can take away their PvP power, and if need be, ban them.

Please read and give this idea some thought. A lot of us want to help bring back the glory days of Pangaea and Mondas, and this is a great way to do that. We want to hear some input!

Thanks,
Ricc
Adso
Poey
Tornado
and lots more

Hopefully, as we get more players on, some older players will start playing again like Kero, Tad, Astew, J4, and others!

I fully support Ric''s idea of changing a lot of the server back to community. Day after day there seems to be nothing to do because of a lack of people or activities. Towns have become near desolate areas. Not like cool Western desolate, just empty desolate. I do wish PvP would be more common, and not just Badlands. Also, I can see town layouts much better with different managers. You go, Ric!

Didn't KR already address the PvP thing saying: "how soon people forget....."? Just saying, this kinda sounds like the proposal you made a month or two ago....
I do agree that if this change occurs that people like INAMT should be punished Or have privileges revoked

Either way, still up to the admins.

I did make a proposal similar to this a while ago, but only 1 thing is the same: PvP should be reenabled.

The reason that proposal did not receive as much Admin attention was because of Hurricane Sandy, and the server being on and off for about 2 weeks.

However, since then, many more players have come forward, saying how each time playing MC is getting a little boring and not like it used to be.

The reason people did not later on like PvP back then was ONLY because of crazy people like INANT and washyohands not being sufficiently punished. With this new system, if a bunch of players think someone is abusing their PvP privilege, an Admin has the power to take away their PvP, or a Mod/Admin can jail or ban them.

And of course, this is all up to the Admins, and we understand this will not be immediately done. Even if this were passed, we would still have to wait until 1.5. But I think the Admins should take a look at the situation right now. It is not like the days where people could live together in big towns, build what they wanted without worrying about money or dumb griefers, and could have some action with PvP once in a while.

Also if u really think about it a lot of people really enjoyed Mondas back then and like the towns and everything and I don't think even most people wanted to start a new map the only reason why we started a new map was because of the 1.8 update which made a lot of new changes to the game and added new biomes that we wouldn't of been able to get in Mondas and who knows maybe if it hadn't been for some of these major updates that changed the game a lot maybe we would still be in Mondas right now

Yes we definitly could use some more regular players, there is no denying that. Although I would have to disagree about the greifing problem. Greifing was a much more of regular occurrence those days. Today we have 3 different ways players can protect their own stuff without any admin intervention (res, plots, and factions). The big difference is players have to do rather than getting an admin to do it. Players difficulty protecting their own stuff was actually the very reason I implemented the land manager.

1) I'm not sure if I like the idea of having PVP in Novo or really how we would manage this. It would be especially difficult to try to micro manage who kids banned for 'serial pvping'. We have the badlands for people who want pvp. The badlands have a lot of things in place already to keep people from doing things like jumping in and out of the protected regions. This would be nearly impossible to do when you have random res's all over the place. From past experience, pvp on the main map is a big turn off for new players. It only brings conflict and sets a bad mood for the server. This was the very reason we started having visitors spawn in novo.

2) I guess I just don't quite get what you mean by this, what's the purpose of escorting them out? Aren't mods already a sort of lawman?

3) back to 1

4)I would likely be ok having larger res'd areas controlled by certain players. The difficult part would be deciding who gets to control them and not making it playing favorites. There would be some things to tackle here but im not nearly familiar enough with res to figure out how this would all work. Also Eventually I wouldn't mind setting up a street department group of some sort to do things like light the streets and maybe build a wall around the server towns or something. I havent quite figured this one out yet.

5) Advertising is always the big one. There are a lot of server lists that need updated which the admin will have to do. Also does everyone know that we have a link referral system. You really can make a lot of cash if you use it. Basically you get your referral link and post it somewhere. Everytime a new person clicks the link, you get $100 in game. Get a nice link on reddit or somewhere and you could be rich pretty freaking quick. I also want to setup votifier yet for some mc server sites that way you guys can vote for some cash.

We are always looking for ways to move this server forward (backwards when neccassary)and really do appreciate these thoughts. I think we really have come a long way with how the current server build is setup but no matter what we do we will never please everyone. A lot of old players have simply lost interest or dealing with their current lives. We have to focus on the new and building new friendships with them. I think if their is any one thing that bossSMP should be known for is our welcoming nature to all players. Anyways, I think my wife is home so I gotta go. i wouldn't mind continuing this discussion though.
